The New Jersey legislature is about to vote on whether to extend Governor Murphy’s pandemic powers another 90 days. This would allow him to continue to run our State with a stroke of his pen, grossly undermining the power of the legislature and muting the People’s voice in the process.

Senators, Assemblymen and Assemblywomen:
I'm writing to you again about the proposed extension of Governor Murphy's authority to dominate aspects of state governance that ultimately, rightfully belong to your respective legislative bodies.
New Jerseyans have been living in a nightmare of medical tyranny, civil rights violations, demoralization, and what functionally amounts to a lack of legislative representation regarding our most cherished values for nearly two years.
Our children's education, health, well-being and very futures are being sacrificed and there is no end in sight. The repercussions of these two years on each child seemingly are not being considered in the context of real, personal loss or societal impact.
Our elderly, especially those confined to nursing homes and long-term care facilities, are being increasingly isolated and even subjected to lowered standards of care due to outcomes of the Governor's and state agency head's executive decisions and accompanying orders, directives, and waivers.
Governor Murphy's leadership arguably has led to more sickness, death, business failure, loss of personal wealth, loss of confidence and trust in government, and division within our communities than any other time during the 245 years of New Jersey State history.
There are only two possible explanations for what we have endured. Either it is the intention of New Jersey state government leadership and their allies to execute their functions with the express purpose of dissolving and remaking the social and economic order of our state through the weaponization of public institutions against the People, or they are grossly incompetent. Either scenario requires they be restrained from inflicting further damage through their policies.
Much of what rightfully should be decided in the legislature, county and/or local government or the private sector is being imposed by Governor Murphy's pen. This is not only offensive to American ideals, but it is entirely unsustainable if we are to take seriously the language of the Constitutions of the United States of America and of the State of New Jersey.
I realize that ending the Governor's ability to rule in this manner necessarily means that your job as a legislator will get a lot harder immediately and for the foreseeable future, however, you were elected to do this work even when it is very difficult. As your constituents, we expect and deserve nothing less than your total commitment and care for the job at hand. The time for partisan charade and soundbites is over.
You have the distinct honor and duty of restoring the People’s voice to the legislative process when you vote NO on the resolution to extend the authority described in P.L. 2021 c. 103 for an additional 90 days. The time is now.
Sincerely,
