ICYMI - WNYC Studios podcast, Dead End - A New Jersey Political Murder Mystery
NJ's dirty, corrupt political regime on full display
In the autumn of 2014, John and Joyce Sheridan were brutally murdered. According to the Gothamist, “The couple was found dead in their home in Skillman, N.J., just outside Princeton. John Sheridan worked for two gubernatorial administrations and served as the commissioner of transportation. He and Joyce Sheridan were stabbed to death in their bedroom and the house was set on fire.”
There was renewed public interest in the Sheridan murders after two hitmen recently pled guilty in the 2014 slaying of a political operative in North Jersey. That murder had similar characteristics to the Sheridans’ brutal deaths which led producer and podcast host Nancy Solomon to conduct a two year investigation into the crime.
The investigation never made sense to those closest to the family and the facts, according to the podcast. Law enforcement concluded John Sheridan had murdered his wife before killing himself. Oddly, evidence presented did not seem to support that claim. Was the case bungled or something more ominous at play?
The Dead End podcast provides a disturbing look at the intersection of political power and law enforcement in NJ and does so in a refreshingly non-partisan manner. As we suspected, greed, power and corruption impact both sides of the aisle. If you ever wondered how heinous crimes can be overlooked, this podcast is a good primer.
Questions we all should be asking after listening:
Who killed John and Joyce Sheridan?
Why, despite contradictory evidence, was the death still categorized as a murder/suicide?
Was the Somerset Prosecutor’s Office inept or complicit in covering up a crime?
NJ is one of only 7 states that has an Attorney General we don’t elect. How is that working out for us?
How are “Acting” Attorneys General manipulated into investigating or dropping an alleged crime?
How powerful is George Norcross in the “south Jersey political machine”?
After recently opening an investigation, will Governor Murphy’s Acting AG, Matt Platkin, finally solve this crime?
