NJ Bills Staking Narratives?
State lawmakers get active as political landscape and legislative climate continue shifting amid multipolar winds of change during election year.
With state Senate and Assembly elections just months away and Fiscal Year 2024 budget negotiations about to start, the New Jersey Legislature is in full swing. The legislative calendar lists several committee meetings for Thursday February 16, 2023. While the published agendas cover a wide range of topics, some bills grabbed our attention so we’re highlighting* them. Keep reading below the balloon for details.
In early February a bunch of election related bills (mostly addressing mail-in ballots) were passed out of a Senate committee. Since then, more bills impacting voting and elections have been introduced and some are listed for consideration on February 16.
New Jerseyans are all too familiar with the health risks and other long term effects of environmental contamination whether it comes from accidents or discharges. National news has recently featured stories about a chemical spill which was the result of management efforts after a train derailment in a rural area near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border. Interestingly, but not surprisingly, a few bills that are scheduled for NJ legislative committees on February 16 address related topics.
Lastly, after almost two weeks of news stories focusing on balloons - some of which may or may not be UFOs - and questions directed at government officials about aliens, a committee listed a resolution urging Congress to increase NASA funding.
