NJ Moves in Lockstep to Impose Economic Sanctions on Russian and Belarusian Businesses
State lawmakers from both sides of the aisle and Governor Murphy propose legislation in support of advances by the Biden administration related to Ukraine conflict.
The NJ Legislature and the Governor's Office are currently working on a bill to place state level sanctions on Russian and Belarusian entities who have business dealings with the State of New Jersey.
S1889: Prohibits government dealings with businesses associated with Belarus or Russia passed unanimously with amendments out of the NJ Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee's February 28, 2022 meeting.
The identical bill, A3090, was not referred to a committee but introduced and read before members of the lower house's legislative body during the General Assembly's February 28, 2022 voting session.
As of this writing, the bill text has *not been posted to the NJ Legislature website for public review.
*UPDATE: Read the bill text for S1889 published midday Tuesday March 1, 2022 here.
Bipartisan effort on the issue within New Jersey legislative and executive leadership to fast-track the bill appears to be happening in lockstep.
