NJ's Half-Baked Budget Plan Heats Up
Joint Budget Oversight Committee meeting means that the public may see what Governor Murphy, state officials and legislators have been cooking up since last summer
Much has occurred since Governor Murphy signed the NJ state budget on June 30, 2022. While we aren't offering specific analysis or commentary about any one item listed for this 'NJ fiscal year halfway mark' Joint Budget Oversight Committee (JBOC) meeting, we fully appreciate that what's articulated by selected NJ legislators regarding budget maneuvers impacts not only the People of New Jersey, but those of the United States and the world beyond.
When concerns and inquiries regarding spending plans for NJ's Fiscal Year 2023 (July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023) budget items were raised during legislative hearings and votes last Spring, WANJ recalls that several members of the NJ Legislature were adamant in their assurances that the People of New Jersey would be informed and have their voices heard in the 'to be determined' details of state spending via the JBOC.
Since the Fiscal Year 2024 budget proposal from the governor’s office is due in a matter of weeks (February,) legislators’ attention will soon shift to negotiating with Governor Murphy about how the state plans to finance expenses incurred July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024.
Tune in at 10am EST; a live remote committee meeting broadcast link can be found on the NJ Legislature website. And, as with most committee business, an archived recording is usually uploaded after conclusion, so listen at your leisure.
